About Us

A small Charlottesville shop, doing one thing

Rivanna Technologies was started by a principal engineer out of healthcare to do one thing: build AI automations for small businesses in central Virginia, on top of the software they already pay for.

Why we started this

Big enterprises have whole teams writing AI tooling for themselves. The five-person dental office, the family winery, the contractor running three crews out of a pickup truck — they do not. The same software vendors keep selling them another dashboard to log into.

Rivanna Technologies exists to close that gap for small businesses in central Virginia. The engineering background here is healthcare — systems where a wrong number is a clinical event, not a typo. That is the bar we hold for an automation that sends your invoices or touches your patient schedule. If it is not right every time, it does not ship.

We work locally because the details matter. A Friday night at a Charlottesville restaurant does not look like a Friday night anywhere else. Harvest at a Monticello Trail winery has its own staffing rhythm. A contractor working between Madison and Albemarle is on a different supplier schedule than one in Northern Virginia. We build around how the work actually happens here.

The name comes from the Rivanna River. Pick a metaphor if you want one — we picked it because we live on it.

How we work

Four things you can hold us to. If we ever stop doing one of them, you should call us out.

Local

We live in central Virginia. When something breaks, you call a person who has been to your shop — not a ticket queue in another time zone. Discovery and setup happen in person. Ongoing support is whatever mix of remote and on-site makes sense.

Works with what you already have

Your AI partner connects to QuickBooks, Square, Toast, Google Calendar, your POS, your email — whatever you already use. Nothing gets ripped out. We add a layer on top that moves data between the tools you already trust.

Transparent

Every action the AI takes is logged. You can see what it did and when. If a rule needs to change or an automation needs to stop, you tell us and it stops the same day. No black box, no escalation queue.

Priced for a small business

Less than a part-time hire. One-time setup fee, flat monthly rate, no long-term contract. If the discovery turns up less than ten hours a week of busywork, we will tell you it is not worth doing — before you sign anything.

Where we work

Greene, Madison, Orange, and Albemarle counties — basically anywhere within a 45-minute drive of Charlottesville.

Albemarle County

Downtown Mall restaurants, 29 North medical offices, vineyards out toward Crozet and Scottsville. This is where most of our work happens.

Greene County

Stanardsville and the corridor up Route 33. A lot of newer trades businesses and tasting rooms that grew faster than their back office did.

Madison County

Farms, contractors, and main-street retail. The work here usually starts with cutting paper invoices and phone-tag scheduling.

Orange County

Downtown Orange through the Route 15 corridor. Seasonal demand, rural delivery routes, and a lot of QuickBooks installs that nobody has touched in years.

Outside that radius? Ask anyway. We have done remote setups for a few businesses we have ties to, and we will tell you up front whether it makes sense without the in-person discovery.

Tell us where your week goes

Fifteen minutes on the phone or coffee at your shop. We will ask what you spend Monday morning doing and tell you whether any of it is worth automating.
